Timber, a hound mix, disappeared from owner Dylan Reedy’s home in late November 2025. What followed was a months-long search with few answers.
But while Reedy was searching for Timber, his missing dog had actually been found just one day after disappearing—nearly 90 minutes away from home. It would take approximately 250 days and a social media post before the two finally found their way back to each other.
Timber Suddenly Goes Missing
According to People, Reedy came home in late November 2025 and discovered that Timber was gone. Reedy didn’t know how Timber had managed to get out of the home. He searched for his dog, but days without answers eventually turned into weeks, and weeks became months. After so much time had passed without any promising leads, Reedy was beginning to lose hope. What he couldn’t have known was that Timber had already been found.
Timber Was Found Nearly 90 Minutes Away
On Nov. 28, just one day after going missing, Timber was taken in as a stray by Animal Friends Humane Society. The shelter was nearly 90 minutes away from his home. Timber also arrived needing medical attention. Animal Friends Humane Society later explained on Facebook that the dog had come in with what it described as a “nasty laceration” on his leg. Despite his injury, Timber patiently allowed staff to care for him.
He received medical treatment and was eventually placed in foster care. There was another complication: the shelter didn’t know him as Timber. He had been given a new name: Flash. While Reedy continued searching for a dog named Timber, the dog was being cared for elsewhere under a completely different name.
After spending time in foster care, Timber eventually returned to the shelter and awaited adoption. Months had now passed since he disappeared.
A Social Media Post Changes Everything
After approximately 250 days apart, the breakthrough finally came through social media. A supporter named Ferg shared a post featuring Timber. Eventually, Ferg received a message from Reedy’s girlfriend. “I think the dog in that photo is my missing dog,” the message read, according to People.
After more than eight months of searching, Timber’s family had finally spotted him. Arrangements were made for Reedy to go to the shelter, and Ferg was asked to be there for the reunion. After months of uncertainty, Reedy was finally about to see the dog he had raised since he was only five weeks old.
Missing Dog Reunited With Owner After 250 Days
Timber’s reaction when Reedy arrived made the reunion even more emotional. “The second Timber saw his dad, that little nub tail was wagging a hundred miles a minute,” Animal Friends Humane Society said. The shelter described a reunion filled with “happy tears” and “excited kisses.” After approximately 250 days apart, Timber clearly recognized his owner.
For Reedy, a search that had lasted more than eight months was finally over. And for Timber, a journey that included an injury, medical treatment, foster care and months at the shelter ended with him returning to the person who had been looking for him all along.
